I'm writing a script to add / delete passes to the renderman globals, though when I delete a pass via mel, the globals don't update (looks like globals do some nifty rebuilding of the UI when deleting from the interface).
If I save the scene and re-load obviously the UI state refreshes properly - is there a complete way of doing this via mel?

hey I think I've found it...
there's a hidden attribute on the renderManGlobals node called updatePassesUI.
if you set the attribute to a string of "1" it refreshes the globals
setAttr -type "string" renderManGlobals.updatePassesUI 1;
