Hi there, i'm hoping someone knows whats going on here. I'm working on digital tutors' maya interior tutorial and have run into a problem. I've made a directional light that simulates the sun coming through windows. I've turned on ray trace shadows and upped the intensity of the light to have the sunligt casting on the floor and wall. Here's the problem: the tutorial calls for an area light to be brought in as a photon emitter. I lowered the intensity to zero and clicked on 'emit photons.' Now, i need to turn on the global illumination checkbox in render settings to control the photons, but when i do, the 'sun' directional light stops casting across the floor. The scene is still lit, but the shadow and lght beam effect is gone.
Anyone know why this is happening? I've tried a few different settings, but the problem seems directly tied to turning on global illum. in render settings.
Thanks for any help!
