Antialiasing and particles

Hi there, I am trying to render out a scene that contains a sparks particle source approx 400 particles emitted. The scene renders unders 2 min a frame without antialiasing on. As soon as antialiasing is checked on the render time jumps to over 20 min a frame! I've played around with the settings and achieved somewhat better results, but I was wondering if there is a way around this particle and antialiasing problem?

Try rendering the scene at double the resolution with anti-aliasing turned off. It shouldn't take tha much longer to render. Once it's finished scale it down to normal size in a compositing program or using automate(batch) in photoshop. If that doesn't look good enough for you, try rendering at an even higher resolution (maybe 4 times the size)
