Any opinions on 19" Flat LCD monitors? ViewSonic?

I'm thinking about purchasing a Viewsonic VX900 19" Flat LCD monitor .... thought i'd see if anyone has an opinion on this particular model (pros/cons) or recommendations on another brand.

From what i have read great screen real estate, you will still need to keep a small CRT around for accurate motion and color tests however. That is just the nature of TFT's at this point in the game.

hey there....i have done some reading on lcd monitors and can suggest a few that you might like.

well...if you are into 3d and gaming...then you need a lcd monitor with a fast pixel refresh rate.
1. samsung makes a great looking lcd screen that is fully adjustable AND can rotate 90 degrees. it looks great.
2. NEC, good looking monitor that displays great colour
3. hitachi 19". i am a huge gamer and 3d fan...and this seems to be the best of both worlds, the picture i hear is incredible and it has a very high refresh rate. looks pretty, not as adjustable as the samsung tho, but it does have a swivel base and can be adjusted horizontally. to me this is the best 19" lcd for 3d work.

the reason that i have included the gaming aspect into the monitor is to show you that the monitor can handle fast moving images. when animating or playing movies (dvd's etc), u dont want your monitor to "ghost". ghosting occurs because the pixel refresh rate isnt high enough so images sort of "stay" on screen while the movie is been played and hence u get a trail or ghosting effect.

so it depends on what you want the monitor to do. if you are not animating or playing games or movies on the lcd, then you might wanna go for high image quality as well.

in this regard i would still recommend the hitachi, because from what i have read it has incredible image quality. i would also recommend the viewsonic, the sony 19", the samsung and a NEC monitor.

bear in mind that i have only read these reviews and i am giving you my opinion. i have ordered the hitachi 19" and should get it this or next week. I have read a lot of reviews and forums, and this is what i have gathered from them. hope u find it useful .

personally, i would scrape together a little extra cash and get a 20 inch model.

20'' lcds usually come with a native res of 1600*1200, but NOBODY makes a 19" higher than 1280*1024. I just dont understand how the only non-square pixel resolution became the most popular format.

Also, if dell has been selling 15'' laptop screens for several years now that run at native 1600*1200, then why can't somebody do it at 19''?

actually i think the video chipset supports that resolution but on the laptop you end up scrooling around the screen to get your total screen real estate.

Personally I would wait a year or two. Current pixel response times are 12-16ms or higher. But it's supposed to be less than 6ms in a couple years. I purchased a 17" Samsung 2 years ago and it's been great though. I have no problems animating or viewing low-res animations on it. There are some color problems, but the ease on the eyes makes up for any flaws IMO.

One word - DELL. Normally same as Samsung only MUCH cheaper if you pay attention to all those deal sites.

Haven't heard much about Viewsonic LCDs. I still hate their CRT though.

Response times suck, I totally agree. But 99% of people don't seem to care. Be prepared if you belong to that remaining 1% and don't bitch about it.

How much easier on the eyes is LCD supposed to be? its hard to tell from a few minutes in a show room. Is it just the thing to get cuz its new and flashy looking? is the bang worth the buck?

LCD is much easier on eyes. especialy if you work with text. BUt if you want animations then trust your crt! But that said the crts days are starting to be over.
