Watching playblast video in MEL window..?

How can we watch the playblast video in our custom MEL window?
i.e; Is it possible to attach a video into a window and play it, using MEL/Python inside Maya? And How?

Yes but is it worth the time? I mean the only thing your external player does not do is dock int maya window. The rest you can do already. So unless this is imperative then its not necessarily worth it. If you need a nicer looking player take a look at the web theres a few very nice looking free cyclers out there.

Hence not elementary. Outside elementary you can do whatever you could imagine.

PS: pyqt is a bit restrictive in terms of licencing which is why pqt des not ship with maya as it should. Since theres a lgpl version of pySide i see it as a better alternative as it may actually ship with maya at some point. Making your code actually protable., sice lets face it instructing your client to build pyqt does NOT cut it. Either way the 64 bit versiosn of both are a bit nightmarish.

I completely agree with Joojaa!
But if you HAVE to, you can always, in the script, do the playblast, open up a floating pane, create a camera, create an image plane showing the playblast image sequence, store evaluation and display settings, set evaluate nodes to none and turn off display visibility of all nodes except cameras and change playback settings to update active view pane only, create a floating window with a "revert back to original settings" button  and start playback, hehe..
Silly answer, but it IS a POSSIBILITY (even though a completely whacky one). So if your question is simply 'is it possible', then the answer is definately 'YES'.

Yeah you can do that. Its very hard to control that window over time and ensure pixel perfect diplay so best not to do such a hack and ultimately its not exactly the same thing.

If you really wanted tough you could make a ogl view in the api for this but... Anyway we are treading into the area of development for sales kind of polishing. And thats a lot of work on purpose. I once did a script that took 5 minutes to write, to make it publishable, making installer polishing gui shielding against wierd system settings etc. took 2 weeks. So the actual thing the user wanted was 5 minutes getting it to shape to ship to customer 2 weeks (sic). Insane!

yeah.. again, totally crazy 'solution'. You could have it playing in fcheck, vlc or whatever, a player that pops up in front of your maya window anyway, like Joojaa said in his first reply, so I wouldn't even consider doing what I said.
