Maya 4.01 Completely Restarts My Computer

This just started happening recently after using maya on the same system for 3 months without a problem. I could be doing the simplest thing, and maybe after about 20-30 min. of work my computer completely restarts. I found about 2 posts with the same issue on a few newsgroups, but I've yet to resolve my problem. I've tried reinstalling my video drivers but I really don't know what else to do..

My Computer:
AMD 1600 Xp
512 ddr ram
plenty of hd space
firegl2 (latest maya certified drivers)
layla24 sound card
generic ethernet card
Windows 2000 Professional - Service Pack 3

Have you thought about getting a different video card.

Anyway your card is qualified to run Maya 4 on Win2kpro SP2 with a driver version 5.12.2195.2082

I don't know if this makes much of a difference but try moving the card to a different slot like to first or last card. It might make a difference??

I am definately considering getting a new card, but i want to first make sure that it is the card that would be doing this. I can't move the video card around because its AGP; it only has the one slot. The card was performing great for moths up until a few days ago, when the restarts began. Thanks for the reply..

Well I have had a system that allways restarts instead of shuttingdown. Windows can get flaky so maybe it's time to reinstall windows?

Also try moving your prefs folder out of your user directory and force Maya to make new ones.. this fixes all sorts of woes..

Lose Maya4.0.1. Get the upgrade 4.0.2. This will solve many issues and possible yours.

i have the exact same problem

i have narrowed it down to the graphics card cause my mate has almost the exact same comp as me except he has a 64meg card i only have i 32meg

yes i know i do plan on upgrading sometime soon!
