Color Blind Compositing?

i have been working in the tv industry for quite some time and am finding my confidence in my ability dwindle as I realise i have a lousy perception and eye for color
I am finding myself in more complicated situations dealing with color and feel that having a "color deficiency" is making it hard to pick colors or "see" the colors that people point out.
My question is "is there anyone out there who is color blind and works in the compositing world?"
I can't see my future being too good if I can't see color like everyone else can - maybe I should try to findan interest in audio.

well, i don't know how bad your perception is but i have the same problem with a photographer i've been working with. I'm not to receptive to certain bits of red. basically all it means is he sits with me when we do colour correction. as for the rest it doesn't matter, in film most of the stuff i do goes to a grader anyway.

One tip, if your trying to simply match colors and black/white levels, like a fg to a bg plate. Try just comparing the individual r,g,b channels in greyscale and just match their values.

Try to saturate the color to maximum if it helps. You can then delete that node.
I'm myself not color blind, but working for machine vision company. In that application color doesn't play a role because we only work in monochrome.

I think that someone should be a little honest here. I hope it isnt too harsh.

Compositors need to have a good eye for color. Its an important part of the job. If you have a deficiency in this then you are off to bad start in a job which is difficult to get good at anyway.

What separates a good composite from a bad one? Sure there are all the technical tricks like light wrapping and edge blending and it is essential to understand premultiplication and to pull a good key but at the end of the day, it comes down to color matching. There are techniqes to help you with this process but it always boils down to precise color judgement.

This might be a little bit left-of-field, but is there any way of measuring the degree of someones color-blindness (etc) then superimposing that inversely as a color-profile within a given piece of software (or monitor calibration)?

Like when someone has a frequency-based deafness and they get hearing aids with their own personal eq supplimentally hardwired into it. If the same principles as they use for aural problems could be applied to vision, say, calibrating a color-blind persons monitor with a profile based specifically on the users particular spectrum-based visual impairment, then while not a perfect solution, might still be a way of giving someone a 'flat' view of all colors as an unhindered pair of eyes would see...

I don't really know anything about what I'm talking about... just a rambling idea...

I dont really know too much about the subject but it seems to me that there is a difference between deafness and color blindness. The impared hearing example suggests that certain frequencys are heard quieter than others. However color blindness is due to the inability to tell different hues apart rather than certain hues appearing less saturated. I cant see how a custom color profile or LUT could help under these circumstances. Even if incresed saturation would help someone to differentiate colors, they would be looking at an image which is too saturated in certain hues.
