Compositing Software That Is Suitable For Maya

Iam intrested to learn a compositing software. So  can any one suggest me a compositing software that is well suitable for Maya 2008.

Shake, fusion, nuke being best, combustion being ok, and AE being a secondary choice if your primary business is not comp.

Shake is pretty much dead in the water isn't it?

I haven't check this out but I guess Autodesk is trying to make new versions of Maya well integrated with their compositing program Toxic. But personally I don't know anyone or companies that use it all.

Well its pretty much a complete package so you could still conceivably use it for LOOOONG time i mean i still know peopel on 2.5 licenses that are happier with shake than any of the newer, AE, Combustion, even fusion licences. Sure it lacks some things but what it has is fast beuond belief. Verastile as hell.

And its cheap

And ist still one of the best comp apps out there. Thsi is a testament to just how good shake actually is.

Then isn't strange that it's no longer being developed?

I think you can still get licenses for the Mac for $500 but linux lics are like $5k or something right?

Also I guess it depends on wether or not you just need an autonomous compositing package for you own work or if you are looking for something that is in demand in the job market. If it's the latter then AE is the obvious choice for broadcast and design and even some film work. Otherwise I'd say Nuke, Fusion or Combustion.

Not really, Apple wanted to buy the know how. However the gui of shake does not really epitomize Apples view on how software should work. Unfortunately the very hardcore computing way shake works, is one of its best assets. So one cant really separate the two.

Apple wants easy to use accessible for all cheap software, but the effect industry wants easily extendable, usable software where education is no issue. Now apple is however wanting teh effects market and they say they are working on smething completely new. But it remain to be seen.

So the reason shake does no longer develop is not that its not good or successful but because of this. Its now in domain of politics.
