Creature Being Torn Into Two Parts

Would like to work on an ambitious project of showing a body of a creature being split into two parts.

Yes, this would be a gory scene with blood etc.

any pointers on being able to show it realistically. Any tutorials/tips on a similar work done before.

that could be pretty fun to do.. first thing I might look into is how to use cloth to simulate the flesh and maybe having rigid bodies for the limbs.. I've seen somewhere a demo of a crash dummy or something like that.. it was basically simple body parts connected with hinge constraints.
