I have a complex logo which is displacement mapped on a Nurbs grid, and I'm having problems at render time.
To pick out the logo cleanly, the grid has computationally expensive Surface Approximation settings:
Adaptive - Spatial, 1.000units with unit definition set to pixels
When set to render, Soft pre-calculates for 5 or 6 minutes before starting to draw each frame. Once this precalculation is done, the frame only takes 30 seconds or so to draw.
Since the displacement mapping parameters do not change at any point, is it not possible to get Soft to remember it's precalculation from one frame to the next?
A further problem is that Soft often seems to suffer from what I'm guessing is some kind of memory pile up - after rendering so many frames, it just stops. No error message, though a CtrlAltDel is sometimes required to shut it down. This can happen after 9 frames, or after ninety. Restarting Soft sees the frame at which the stop occured render happily.
If anyone could shed some light on this situation I'd be really greatful - the renders I'm getting look really lovely, it's just a shame they're such a pain to get.
Yours
