Hi, just thought I would add a bit about my experiences with this. Not a techy but thought the info would help those better informed to figure out what was going on and help out the rest of us.
I have an IMac and a MacBook Pro. On both I'm running Mac Os 10.6 and May 2012 - SP3. I think when I'm at home the MacBook gets an internet connection though the IMac but not entirely sure about that.
Anyway, I hardly ever do batch rendering, been mostly focussing on learning animation. Today I attempted batch render. I did so on the MacBook and got the // Error: Socket error creating command port error. Checking online, the collective wisdom seems to be that the problem relates to firewall and/or two copies of Maya running. My firewall is switched off but I do have copies of Maya on both machines as mentioned before.
A number of people have noticed that when they DISconnect their network cable the problem goes away. In my case I notice that when I CONNECT the MacBook to the router via cable, the batch rendering works fine. Also I have had no problems batch rendering on the IMAC even though it only uses wireless connection to router/internet.
Hope my blabbering makes sense to someone :0)
