Hello ..

I am into games a long time now ... from the atari XL times onwards.... but now it got me and I try to get into realtime 3d graphics ... a programmer who was bored with the 2d games said yes and we started learning ... but I think we made the wrong start ...

our choice was microsofts directX .x format for the objects ..
now that I know how to make multiple UVs and layered Textures I saw that the directX exporter doesnt even save all these extra informations ... or at least I dont know what I do wrong ...

so ... how can I save my objects without loosing these informations ? even rtg and ge2 .. I couldnt find a way how to get the separate layered textures and multiple UVs out there ...

I need to get the info from maya into something useful ....

how do you do this ?

thanks and sorry for my english

Ingo

Your programmer is about to learn the joys of writing a custom exporter. I believe the .X format would support most of the stuff that you want in the data. However, keep in mind that game engines can't always do the things Maya allows you to set up. For instance, much of what Maya allows in the layered texture doesn't map to things that are easily doable in games. A simple multi-texture is OK, but some of those blend modes as well as the number of textures you can blend in can get pretty hairy to do in real-time.

Yeah... and it also depend of what your game engine allows and what not... I'm working towards the RenderWare platform and I have to "tag" my nodes before exporting, depending on the results I want to get... But that is all about the exporter I think...

uuh.. just as he said.. sorry.. I'm sooo tired.. it's about 5 am where I live so...

cheers
