Scrubbing Through Your Reference Video And Maya Time Line At The Same Time

Is there a plugin or a melscript out there ? Or if someone would like to create one that does this. U have your reference video up on screen (I use virtualDub as a player because its free, shows the frames instead of time and u can scrub with the arrow keys) as u scrub through your scene in maya it updates the frame in your video application (or built in maya video application) so they are both in sync. Any help would be great!

Put the video as image plane in maya? (collapse it to frames first)

Well i suppose you could do that too, all you need is to crate a port reader in both apps and communicate time s over the port. Youd need to change the source code of virtual dub slightly tough.

Or you could hook up a python listener event that listen to the keyboard shortcuts. byrt this would soon go out of sync.

Yeh thats a good idea to use the images... they do use alot of computer resources though. i was looking for a cheaper way of doing it.

Well yes don't tick the cache frames then, or use the live view ports which are a bit more optimal if you have unlimitted.

Anyway image planes a re quite unoptimal on non workstation cards true (since some cards arent capable of doing overlay planes at all and then maya is forced to do the entire render in software)
