Maya Is Driving Me Up A Marble Wall

hi experts....
i'm trying to use the marble texture to simulate veins in an eye...
so i made a test scene with a simple sphere, and played around with the marble texture until i got the result i was looking for... then i went into my main scene, the one with the eye, and used all the exact same settings... but it looks totally different!!!!! the marble veins look completely smooth, just like stripes or something.... so after playing around with all the settings i could think of, and minutes before going mad, i IMPORTED THE TEST SCENE into the main scene to see what it would look like, and it also looks totally different!!!!!!!!!! completely smoothed out....
i'm sure it has to be something very simple that i'm missing here....

Marble is a 3d texture so its dependent on scale.

hey joojaa,
thanx for your response, but i'm afraid that's not it...
the test sphere and the eye sphere are almost identical in their scale.
whats more, i imported the test sphere into the scene and it came with its own texture and 3d placement, but still looked different then it did before!!!

so now i went the other way: imported the "main scene" into the "test scene" and applied the material, and voila, it works!!!! so i guess that's my new-main-scene!
very weird....
