hi,

i seem to have some problems when i get text. when i convert it to face, it doesn't look good
when it hits the light as i view it on perspective view. the face does not look smooth. it has some
lines which show light and dark portions.

Faces often don't have sufficient polygons to render light properly. However it is much more noticable in the Gauraud shading in your view port, than it is in your final rendering. If you are only needing it to look good in a rendering, and it renders fine I would leave it alone.
However, if you need to improve it for both shaded views and rendering then here is a simple solution.

1. Select a face.
2. Use Effects/Convert and convet the face to a polygon. This will create a new object, so disgard the old one.
3. Use Effects/Subdivision to slice it into more polygons. The default 4x4x4 should be sufficent.

Sometimes when you import text or wireframe with Get/Eps2 Soft, it is hard to get a good extrusion out of it.

A trick I use is to make it a face (if it isn't) and turn on shading with the icon mode (shift i) so you can see the wireframe on top of the shading.

If it doesn't shade properly, then you know it won't make a good extrusion. Keep modifying until it shades well.

Also, just moving points around gives you a hint as to what is the problem. Often you have a small loop where two points are over each other.
