Hi, I am ready to buy a new computer and I will be using Maya software, photoshop, illustrator, word, Premiere. I want Maya to run well. I want to get a Dell computer and I want the ability to output to TV. I dont know what type of Dell to get or what else I will be needing and my budget is $2,000. I am not tech savy so if you can inform me on graphics cards, ram.. all that stuff that makes no sense please do! Thanks so much!

Boxxtech.com There machines rock. Dell is for the masses and when you call they have no clue about the graphics industry. Boxx deals tricktly with this industry.

Thanks for replying..
If I need to upgrade the computer in the future would you say it is more expensive through Boxx or Dell ?

BoXX uses high quality off the shelf parts so your much more likely to have fewer upgrade headaches by going with them i would imagine.

Dell uses proprietary mobos and power supplies which makes them a royal pain in the arse to work with.

Are there any disadvantages to using a Boxx system? It sounds too good to be true. Also, if I were to completely give up the animation industry in 2 years would I still be able to use the computer for other things? Thanks

Yes, of course. Boxx is analogous to Dell in that it produces (relatively) customizable computer configurations for end-users. The only difference is that Boxx is focused on the industry, while Dell is focused primarily on "typical" consumers who use their machines for email and the occassional game. You can use your Boxx machine for all of those things.

If i didn't build my own boxes, and was in the market to buy a workstation, then i would most definitely go with BoXX over Dell EVERY TIME.

I say build your own, nothing beats custom built with OEM take it or leave it plus its a pain when it comes to upgrading.

Boxx is non-propriatary, except for their cases on which there's a thread here. Therefore they are possible to upgrade. Dells are essentially unupgradeable (check their support messageboards if you don't want to take my word for it).

Boxx is not the only company that can build a decent generic machine, but at the moment they are probably the most popular in this industry. They may be more expensive than similar workstations from other vendors, but you can try to pricematch them to a more reasonable level.

Of course!BOXX had to try something different in order to break into the workstation market which are dominated by Dell and Mac,but I still believe in configurating and setup yourself is the way to go
No:1 =\>Its fun
No:2 =\>Save money
No:3=\>Educational plus everything down to the last wire is hand picked.
I'm not saying that BOXX or others is no good, there's nothing wrong with it but if you know your hardware then why not cut out the middle man or third etc.
