GLIBC_2.0 error on Suse9.1

I have a trouble with lmgrd daemon on Suse 9.1
it wan`t start with following output:

./lmgrd: relocation error: ./lmgrd: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

first off, check to see if GLIBC_2.0 is actually defined in libc.so.6 by the following:

nm /lib/libc.so.6 | grep -i glibc_2.0 | grep -v @

One of the lines returned should look something like this:

00000000 A GLIBC_2.0

If you don't see something like that, or you see a 'U' instead of an 'A', there's a good chance you don't have glibc_2.0 on your computer, in which case, just open Yast > install software > search for glibc & install 2.0. Check again with the "nm" command & it should be defined.

If that doesn't work, there are some oddidties with glibc in the 2.6 kernel... you can try to set the environment variable LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to 2.4.1 and try again. If that doesn't work... well, post back.

I have this same Glibc 2.0 problem.

The default SuSE 9.1 Pro install does indeed install glibc2.0. I checked it with your "nm" method.

How do I set the environment variable to test it using 2.4?

setenv works if your in the Csh shell instead of Bash, so how do I make Maya to use and remember that setting each time it runs?

Ok, to fix this, edit your "/usr/aw/maya5.0/bin/maya" file as root and add this:

In reply to:setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1

right below the "set maya_exec = maya.bin" line.

So it will now look like:

As you can see in the first line of the program, Maya uses the Csh shell by default, making life very easy for us.

Now just save the file as root (overwrite the current one) and all will be well!

I'm surprised it was necessary to do any editing just to get Maya to run on SuSE Linux 9.1. I've run Maya since SuSE Linux 9.0 and not had any need to edit files to get it to run. As long as you make sure you have installed all the files that Maya requires (see here http://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qualified_hardware/index.jhtmlhttp://www.alias.com/eng/support/maya/qual...are/index.jhtml ). Sometimes with a default Linux installation you may miss installing files that would be required by highend software such as Maya. There's no need to search the net for the files as not only does Novell provide the files on the double sided DVD and 5 CD that are part of SuSE Linux Professional but also Alias normally includes the files on the Maya installation disc. With all the necessary files installed you should be able to install Maya easily and run successfully with no errors.

Anyway, I've noticed in most cases that when a user complains about running highend software with SuSE Linux it's because he/she is using SuSE Linux Personal and not the Professional edition. The Personal edition lacks several key files such as developer library files necessary for Maya. Using SuSE Linux Personal is like trying to run Maya on WinME or WinXP Home.

Maya was compiled and packaged into an RPM using the 2.4 kernel, which caused this problem. The reason it works in 9.0 with no problems is because 9.0 uses the 2.4 linux kernel, whereas 9.1 has kernel 2.6. That also explains why we had to tell Maya to assume the 2.4 kernel, as it does not know how to properly talk to the 2.6 kernel for some reason.

Like I said I'm surprised considering I'm running Maya Unlimited 6.0.1 on SuSE Linux Professional 9.1 with Kernel 2.6.5 and no need to edit anything even back when I first installed Maya 6.0. Maya not only installs easily on SuSE Linux but works very well which is one of the reasons I'll be upgrading to SuSE Linux Professional 9.2 in November.

I've listed my system specs below to try and help Ruben find what the real issue is that caused the error. Hopefully he can resolve it quickly.

Part of it may be that we are using Maya 5. Maya 6 may be able to talk to 2.6 better.

I checked the versions of my software and my glibc is 2.3.3-97, and KDE is 3.2.1, nothing all that different from yours.

Just a small update... I realized I forgot that there was a 5.0.1 update released by Alias a while ago, so I updated Maya and it now seems to work just fine even without editing the maya Bin file to tell it to assume the 2.4 kernel.
