If I import a eps file that was created in illustrator and I want to make it 3d what do I do. What I have done is convert the curves to a planar surface and then extrude the face. Is there a easier or better way of doing this. I dont know if what I am doing is correct.

First off, you can't import an EPS... you have to make it an Illustrator 8 formated file.
Then , yea bevel plus. You might need to add points to the curve in order to make it smooth.

Ai is eps so, if the eps is generic enough and not too new or fancy in format it should work fine.

yes, I know an eps is also an AI, but if you save it out as a .eps, I beleive the importer won't work unless they changed anything since it was introduced maya version 3 I think? Anyway...
Version 8 .AI file out of illustrator works fine.
I know anything higher than version 8 format out of illustrator will come in blank becouse I catch myself doing it on occasion.

yeah sure but AI is not the only program to do eps. In ai you need to isntruct it to use older eps dfinitions and saving eps will automaticaly do newest version wich maya wont understand. But the matter of fact is that you can open any allmost eps just run the eps trough eps2eps and it should fix things, this is a simpe and easy solution to thse that doent have ai around.

fair enough I know that eps is pretty standard, but if you're working in illustrator anyway, its simple to just save out a version 8 file. I guess if you're not working in illustrator or just have an eps, thats a quick solution.

I strictly use ai55. It's enough for transfering curves. Later versions save a lot of uneeded junk ( e.g. default brush definitions in v 8 etc. )
