Getting a new PC what requirements do you recommen

I am thinking of getting a dual 1000mhz PIII
512 RAM
Video card: Any suggestions
Win 2000 PRO

Hmm, Im thinking of getting the same system.. The dual PIII seems to be the go for Maya/Rendering at the moment/price range, but Im no expert... anyone have any experienced opinion?

For video card it's depends on your budget and the apps U'll use.
Lo budget:
-GeForceUltra or GTSElsa synergy3.
Mid budget:
-3dlabs GVX1.
High budget:
-FireGL2.

Avoid Gloria3 it doesn't worth his price.

Ok, it looks I can only pull off a GeForce Ultra. but I have a choice of going with Athlon TB 1.3mhz, w/768RAM
Or 2 dual PIII 1000, with 512 RAM with Windows 2000 Professional.
My main concern is a STABLE yet decent speed set up for Maya.

2 P3's would work better then one athlon on multithreding, but Athlon outperform P3 and P4 on rendering.

Go for Athlon768MB, MAYA uses additional CPUs only while renders so get a faster single proc system instead of dual.

well if this is some ones only PC for doing maya on they are going to have to render at some point and I suggest getting a dual 1ghz PIII machine and that geforce ultra you wont improve your in maya working with dual cpus (and you wont see that much of a difference between the PIII 1ghz and a 1.2 atholon so you might as well help your rendering)
thats just my personal suggestions
since i take this will be your only mahcine youll have to do rendering on it and personally wheni build my next machien im going the dual processor way to speed up rendering
but these are just my personal suggestions

I'd say go for a Pentium 166 with 32MB of EDO RAM and a 2 GB hard drive! ATI makes a great new video card called the Mach64!! You won't be disappointed, plus you'll save a ton of money.
