Maya 2008 Make Selected Curves Dynamic

When I click "Make Selected Curves Dynamic" I end up with extra output nodes (hairSystem1OutputCurves). This is throwing off my whole process. Apparently I need to learn a new way.

I believe in earlier versions of Maya, there was an option to use the existing curve (ie, not create a new curve). Anyone have any ideas as to how I can keep these extra nodes from being created and connected?

so no ideas how to use the original curve I created? It is used in the ik Spline creation and I'm not sure how to reconnect the connections without screwing it up

Ok, then is there perhaps a way to constrain the CVs of the dynamic curve to some objects?
