Maya 8.5 Main Screen Wont, Just Script Editor

Installed Maya8.5 (32bit WindowsXP w/ Nvidia geforce go 7800gtx).

First boot worked fine, but on reboot, the main menu doesn't open, just the script editor and output windows. Deleted prefs but still no good.
Is there a command the i can type to the editor to open it? Autodesk said the card was okay, but still haven't gotten a
solution from them.

Suggestions. Maya 8 works fine by the way.

what error does maya gives you in the Script Editor (or output window)?

No errors reported. Really odd.
I've uninstalled it, then reinstalled. It comes up fine.
I logout, then login, run the app. Bam.
Splash screen, loading on interface,.......
But
Just the script editor and output window come up.

odd. Maya displays the script editor at startup only if there were some problems making it unable to run...
try to rename/delete your old settings directory (my documents/maya) and run maya again to see if this still
happens...

Some time ago I had this, too.
You probably have a script installed which refers to another which cannot be found. So check for correct script locations

You dont happen t have gelato installed for a older version of maya?

so how did you fix it? the same thing happened to me yesterday and i've tried everything from uninstalling/reinstalling to deleting certain scripts.. no gelato found..still wont work? hmmm....

nevermind! deleted the settings directory mydocs/maya as suggested in a previous post and it opens now. whew..
