Is this possible? In essence what I'm trying to do is single out a node in the DG and "delete history" for that node only.

If you're interested in the boring details of what I'm trying to do you can read on:

I wrote a tool (draggerContext) that creates a polyMoveEdge node via the createNode command. I was hoping that I could connect an input mesh and set the inputComponents (via setAttr/connectAttr) from my selection(s), then use the tool (node) to model, then "bake" out the node's modifications on the mesh. I can now select a new mesh or new components, connect them to my node, and continue to model.
And so on.
