Help With Unfolding

I'm currently learning UV mapping, and I have run into some problems.

I would provide an image, but I didn't find anywhere to upload it here, so I'll try to explain as good as I can.

I have basically a rectangular shape, with rounded corners. I want to layout those UVs so they are a straight line, instead of the shape of the actual object. I've tried everything (I think) and the "Unfold" option gave me just some weird results.

Do I have to do this manually or did I miss an option?

Do a projection, in your case planar, and then move the UV's. Why would you want to make the Uv different then the object?

I want it to be a straight line because it would be easier to paint textures and to lay out the rest of the UV's.

I know it looks weird and uv's are not supposed to overlap, but I didn't know how to do the rounded corners, so I thought it would be easier to make it a straight line instead.

why didn't you use nurbs first place? Well theres a trick to this you can deform a copy of your object and map that with planar mapping and the transfeer the map back to your original model.

Ah, I would have to do that manually, I guess?

And the reason I didn't use nurbs is because I'm learning polygons atm.

And nurbs are a poly tool among other polytoools!

Manually? define manually, i mean theres not single tool in a computer thats not automated in one way or another. Off course problem with computers is that they do not automate anything that you cannot describe how to do without a shadow of a doubt. And unfortunately theres no ultimate lets make uvs just like i want tools, in fact theres no such tool. Its like asking for do my work buttons, yes the computer can do that if you can describe to the minuscule accurate detail how to appreach each and every single step of what you do. Unfortunately theres a lot for processing in a human brain that we have absolutely NO clue of what its doing.

If you mean point by point no thats not what i mean. use a laticce to bend it out and project the uv.
