hi,
a little background: i was a professional photographer, but i've taken time off in order to learn maya. i am self taught, with a lot of help from this wonderful site. my idea is to get to such a level that i might find work in 3d and focus on that rather than photography...
this [rusty face](http://8i8.awardspace.com/facerust.html) is my first serious face model.. i started with nurbs, then polys and finally tried out subd for the first time... then i messed around with the combining textures....
i've also uploaded some wireframes and a maya software render [here](http://8i8.awardspace.com/wireframes.html)
i'd love to hear your opinions and criticism or tips of course.
thanx,
d

(btw, not as important but what causes the artifacts on the displaced background?)

The background terrain is quite ruff and you need more light in front of the head. The rust does not look to realistic. Thats because real rust is more scattered and does not not have those rough borders. However the eye looks very nice..and the bump is perfect too.

hey thirt33n,,, thanx for your response!!!
you were totally right, of course, so i've changed the background and the lighting. a bit of an extreme change actually...
i put it on the [same page](http://8i8.awardspace.com/facerust.html) as before.
i know the blutty "rust" isn't very realistic but i kind of like it that way so i'll leave it like that for now...
what do you think?

Again the light is brighter behind the head then in front of it. To make the lighting realistic you should make the light even all over the place.
