no geometry

i am modeling a head for the first time and i must have hit something by accident because all my geometry is not visible. my head only appears as a bunch of red dots. ive tried to show all, hide all, show geometry...and none of this works to bring my head back....does anybody know how i can fix this....how frusturating

If all els fails quit maya and move the maya folder out of your user directory and then launch maya. This will reset all preferences.

i tried moving the entire maya folder found in "my documents" to the desktop and restarting maya with my saved file but this did not work....any other ideas?

What were you working with? Nurbs Polys Sub-ds?

i started with a nurbs cylinder. i was working on lofting the eye patches when this happened.

So this problem is only with this object? If so then select those surfaces and try exporting to DXF.. It sounds weird but it strips errors out and saves to nurbs as well as polys. You may to turn it on in the plugins manager. Deleting history may also fix this problem.

Are you using trims?? Yikes?

yes, the problem is only with the main portion of the head. i bought a dvd from 3dfafe.com on how to model a creatures head. all was going well until this happened. im pretty much a beginner though and dont even know what it means to export to DXF. thanks for sticking in there with me though....im thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling maya and starting over from scratch....but thats a last resort. and no, i dont think im using trims....lol.

I do not think that reinstalling Maya will solve this problem. YOu need to save versions as you go along so that when problems liek this arrise you can hopefully go back to an earlier version. There may be a way around this but it's hard to say what will be a sure fix.

WEhat version of Maya is this? Is it the PLE ?

well how about making sure your shading option is set to smooth shade all? noGeometry
