PC DVD Player to TV?

How can I setup my computer so that my TV uses the DVD player on my computer. My videocard has dual monitor support in case you need to know. Is this possible or do I need just buy a cheap DVD Player?? Thanks in advance.

So I just got a Ti4600 card...I'm sure it has an S-video out......what do I need now...It looks like I need an RCA adapter with an end that will plug into the cable that came with the card (S-video on one end...and some other plug on the other end). I'm assuming that I just plug those into the video in the back of my TV and it should work? (or maybe not unless I have that software utility to disable the macrovision protection on the DVDs...if they have them.) How would this work then once it's all connected...are they're settings I need to change...or will it just show up once I plug it all in and go to the correct video settings on my TV???

The cards that I have bought in the past that have "TV out" capability all came w/ the cables. I remember the ATI series of All in Wonder cards had a similar svideo connector to the card that then branched out to a svideo or rca cables that you could attach to in order to run to your TV. Your card should've came w/ something similar.

Usually you have to have your screen at 640x480 to 800x600 in order for it to output to the TV in my experience. In the Advanced Options of the Monitors Control Panel there is usually something there about selecting a TV as an external display source.

Is there a particular reason you are trying to do this? Why not go pick up a good $60 DVD player (i.e. Apex 1500) and just use that for your TV? If you are concerned w/ Macrovision it is possible to disable it on that Apex if needed. It seems like the route you are trying to go will end up costing you some money as well as frustration unless there is an absolute particular reason you need to go that way.

Actually I was looking through the box and yea the cables are all in there....only they are too short. So I tested it out and I'm able to watch a dvd on my computer and then put it to my TV......but after I close the DVD my computer restarts...(when using the exit feature on the DVD player which is Cyberlink PowerDVD player...which I think sucks so I'm gonna try WinDVD beacuse that one is better IMO.) So...now I think I'm going to go and get some cables so I can extend the S-video cable that runs from my card to the back of my TV's S-video. But I also would like to capture some things from my TV onto my computer. Like if I'm playing a videogame (Ie. Metroid Prime) and I want to capture me playing it....how can I do that? I have a LeadTek Ti4600 and I believe it can do this but I have no idea how. Any thoughts?

Well depending on what version of the Leadtek Ti4600 you have it could have a video capture component of the card. You could use that to capture through something like Premiere, it is pretty easy to do. Of course depending on the speed of your computer it may not be able to keep up - hence why IEEE1394 has become the main way to capture video now.

Yes the cables that come w/ video cards are not supposed to be long enough, pick up a longer svideo cable and try it then.

Yeah...stupid cables!!! That's annoying..anyways I got new cables and I can now watch DVD's on my TV through my computer....I will try capturing something tonight through premiere. Thanks.
