QT Designer tabWidget and python

i've made a UI in qt designer (2010.04) with functions in python (Maya 2011), and i've hit a bump.

basically i want to edit a tabWidget's tab's name, with python and most places i've read tell me to access it with 'tabLayout', however the widget doesnt seem to be supported.

am i being thick or is it really not supported?

QT is not equal to the layouts you make with maya bindings. If you want to acces the qt with python you need to have a qt library for python

as i do not have the slightest clue as to how to write or where to find a qt library for python i've instead worked around by editing the .ui file with python with a search and replace.

that way im editing the .ui file as i need. its a horrible, horrible mess.

Either pyqt or pyside. Unfortunately if you are using 64 bit maya you need to find and compile it yourself. Autodesk has included idntruction on how to do this for pyqt in the maya isntall dir

Thing is licencing makes it impossible to include pyqt with maya, and pyside is not ready enough yet. It would be so simple if they could bundle the libraries with maya but they will not at the moment. But perhaps when pyside is mature enough.

cheers, i've managed to get pyqt4 for 64bit maya, and ive found a supposedly decent .ui to .py script ('uitopy2') and from the examples ive seen, it gives out a fairly nice code to work with.

im looking more into pyqt before i start relying on it tho, I need to have some clue as to what im doing! lol

atm ive comprimised by removing the tabWidget and replacing the structure to work with a textScrollList for now.

i havent heard much about pyside, thanks looking into it now :).

I was very naughty in my eagerness to use python, after everything i heard, I still havent read enough into some of the more basic functions/modules or even using classes!

One thing you could to as a work around is to create a frame layout in qt. and create a tab layout with mel or python code in maya and parent it to that frame layout. That way you have all functionality of the tablayout.
You could even create a sepperate ui that you could then parent inside that tablayout. Its somewhat of a hassle but maybe easier than compiling pyqt and more compatible in case you would want to distribute it.

yeah i tried that, however i cant seem to be able to parent anything with mel onto a .ui. it just wont seem parent it to a widget, instead it adds it to the bottom left of the ui.

im assuming its as i'm using the loadui command as during load it doesnt remember alot of the heirachy information etc, but short of converting the .ui to a .py then finding another way to load in the ui.

instead i worked around and allowed users to add directories to a scrollList and reload fields to correspond with selected directory.
