Selecting the object name under multiple groups

Hi all,

I have a simple (noobish) question but it poses an important problem for me. I have a character structure with lots of groups and objects within that structure (mainly NURBS curves). If I select one of these objects and run this command, I get, for instance:

string $selection[]=ls -sl;
print("Object name:"+$selection[0]+"\n");

Object name: character_Rig_v3:CONTROLS|character_Rig_v3:weapon|character_Rig_v3:weapon

Now, I want to extract only the true object name. It would be "character_Rig_v3:weapon" and not the full long name with "|"  inbetween. As simple as it may be to you: how do I get just the object name without the full path leading to the object? I couldn't find this anywhere.

Its returning that long name because the object exists within the hierarchy and its name is possibly not unique.
however you can tokenize the string and split the string into an array at a given character (in this case "|"). Then is a matter of grabbing the last element of that array (size($array)-1) and you have what you're looking for.

string $tokenizedList[];
tokenize $selection "|" $tokenizedList;
print $tokenizedList[size($tokenizedList)-1];
