Shake And Quicktime

Hi,

there's a serious problem with either Shake or Quicktimes. Whenever I render out a 10bit Quicktime from Shake using Blackmagic 10bit (DV10) the quicktime movie looks a lot different (usually brighter) than the original movie on FinalCut. But what's really curious is when I render out the footage qt in Shake as an .dpx sequence, the dpx sequence looks much brighter than the blackmagic 10bit DV10 quicktime. When I do the same in AfterEffects, the DPX does not look any different than the qt. I really don't know where the problem is, either it's shake or it's quicktime, but whatever the problem is, for the price of an HDMac including FinalCut and Shake, none of the tools has yet been proved as worth the price cause all of that problems.

It would be great if anyone of you could help me with this problem.

this is probably just because QT corrects for the different gamma in video footage, while shake expects you to be experienced enough to apply a viewer LUT yourself. apple even released some tech papers to point this out:

you probably also want to read up on different pixel mapping in video codecs versus RGB, ie 16-235 vs 0-255 values to get a better understanding of what happens under the hood.

ps: note that quicktimes itself doesnt always show the correct colors either, you'd really want to use FCP with a broadcast monitor to check the final look.

Thisis the sort of stuff you get in automatic versus manual handling.... ofcourse shake users do it manualy what shake si about, filan controll. FC on the oetherhand is designed for "art" people who do not want to or care whatever happens down thw line jsut their own perception of stuff. However the autimatic sytem of fcp has scretain BIG disadvantages.

Again fcp asumes its a common yuv to rgb devices gamma difference, wich may be incorrect in major way in certain footages. But shake users are expected to know this kind of eingeneering stuff themselves (besides there might be other than video feeds your working towards).

either way its BAD for porgs to asume stuff like this in the end, for many productional needs. Its okay if you asume the user is only ever doing video work.

OK, this is a test I did using a BM 10Bit codec and SDI out to a broadcast monitor between FCP, AE and Shake.
I took a quicktime and imported it not into AE and SHake. They both look default different on my Broadcast monitor. (Of course shake's looks brighter because of the gamma correction)
I render both QT out and import into FCP my broadcast monitor still sees those differently.
In the Apple whitepaper about the gamma correction in Shake, it is said that on the output those should be the same.
I am getting a little confused now. Does anyone have some insight on that?

UUUFFF the eternal problem with blackmagic, I finally bought an AJA LHe because the problem origin is that the cards codec change colors, amongst others, I used to export in FCP with uncompress 8 bit or 10 instead blackmagic codecs because finally any software like combustion or whatever is the same, the codecs are not good, thats my opinion, try to send directly to shake in FCP and then use uncmpressed codecs even none at all.\
