Hey

I was just wondering if anybody had news about Softquadro FX. I have a 5900 ultra right now, and I can't wait to install the Quadro drivers. The game drivers aren't that bad actually, but I should be getting a pretty big increase with the pro drivers.

Thanks

Nvida has anticipated people to do this so theyve actualy barred softquadding on chip as far as i know.

Softquadro 4 didin`t fully work... it only increased the wireframe speed because Nvidia changed their chips so they aren`t hackable the old way... So I doubt there will be a Softquadro FX and if they do try it will have similar results.

Here's my take on this. In Maya softquadro would hardly matter since Quadros are not any faster than geforces in it in the first place. Go ahead, prove me wrong.

In max softquadro lets you use Maxtreme - meaning it makes the cards several hundred percent faster. It doesn't even matter if the chips are the same or not. Would be simpler to hack the new Maxtreme (someone hacked the old one after all).

It took Unwinder over half a year to release SQ4 and if you remember things were really ugly for several months preceding it's release.

I would expect some effort from Mr Nikolaichuk to hack the FX as well. How successfull he will be is anybody's guess.

"Quadros are not any faster than geforces"
 are you sure about that?
My previous card was a 9700 pro, and I got a very big increase by using the FireGL drivers, especially in wireframe mode. I was wondering if it would be the same with Nvidia or not. It seems that Nvidia has done a pretty good job at optimizing the detonator drivers for maya. I actually know one of the engineers that code the game drivers and he told me that they do test them with maya and optimize them as well.
I'm pretty sure though, that the quadro drivers would bring at least a 25% increase or something.
What do you guys think?

Thanks a lot

dave

I just bought an OEM Quadro 4 980XGL thinking I`d get more speed than my GF4 Ti4400... but it almost exactly same speed.

I'm not sure, but based on the little data that's available I believe I'm right.

The drivers are optimised, but it appears that in Maya the main benefit is not speed but stability and less artifacts.

My other observation is that Maya viewport performance is extremely processor-dependant. Framerates increase dramatically with processor speeds.
