Well here is the research I've uncovered so far, let me know if any of you have additional data or what you think of this discovery:
4210: Approximately $4000
128 Megs of Frame buffer and texture Ram
32 Megs of Direct Burst
Certified only up to Pentium 3 chips
5110: Approximately $2000
64 Megs of Frame buffer and texture Ram
16 Megs of Direct Burst
Certified up to Pentium 4 chips
So what have I concluded? 3D Labs has made one card before the launch of the Pentium 4 processor that was quick and efficient. But in order to sell more cards, when the P4's started coming out, they made a card half the power and half the price so that they could make more money and continue supporting the product for the P4. Nothing wrong with capitalism. But of course, you now have to spend even more money to advance to the level of the 4210 and go beyond it by purchasing the 6110 or the 6210. It just seemed ridiculous to me that when they wanted to begin supporting the P4 that they made a card with less power than the model before it. Shouldn't these things always get better with time? What do you all think. Do you have any different findings for this comparison? The odd thing was that when I started getting into the nitty gritty about these cards with a salesperson, all they did was try to convince me to spend more money and get the 6110 or 6210 series. I'm amused.
