Suse 10 On My Laptop Workstation

Hello,

I'm trying to make the switch from windows to linux but I'm having problems with my installation of suse 10.

When I boot from cd I select "begin installation" and then I get a blank screen. The manual said something about not being able to initialise some kind of graphic engine. They said to change the install resolution of the monitor or selecting text install.

I'v tried all that but it doesn't work. (Even the live cd of suse 10 doesn't boot).

I have a Quadro 4 550 in my laptop.

I tried to install it on my desktop workstation (quadro 4 380) and it works.

Tried to install it on my girlfriends laptop and it also works.

Tried to disable the lcd of my laptop and use an external monitor and it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me?

You didn't indicate system specs other than the OS you're using and the graphics card. So please provide more details. Also did the laptop function prior to you installing SUSE Linux? I suspect the installer let alone the LiveDVD of SUSE Linux 10 isn't running due to an error with your drive reading the disc. Though with out more details it's difficult to narrow down the issue.

Also, unless you meant something else when you commented on "manual" I'm presumming you are referring to the Admin/User manuals included in the retail version of SUSE Linux 10. If this is true then the distribution also includes 90 days of end-user installation support in which case contacting Novell would be one option.

Hi,

I have an evaluation copy and the manual is in pdf.
The system is working fine on windows, the cd-rom isn't broken. Right now i'm downloading an evaluation copy of suse 9.1, perhaps I can upgrade later to 10.

And if that's not working I might as well give redhat a shot. But then I have to pay in advance before I even know it works.
