Hi, I am starting my first texture in maya with a poly- character that is just under 3500. I have been viewing allot of tutorials to get an idea as to what to do in creating a uv map. Alot of the turotials say to duplicate your origional model so that you can make your map, and then apply it to the origonal. What i want to ask is this. If I were to use the smooth poly tool on the duplicate object, create my map in the more smooth form, would I then be able to transfur that uv map on to the origonal model. I ask this cause i am wondering if this is how people get there models to look smooth with a higher uv map on there lower ploy model. Or does my texturing simply make it smooth depending how I make it
Thanks everyone
Dave

As long as you retain construction history from the low rez object to the smooth one this shoudl work well
