I am trying to render a model in Maya 2010 with a high poly count and significantly large UV maps. There are about 12 different objects which require large UV maps (about 6000x6000), and some of the materials are SSS shaders for skin and I can't render without mental ray and/or maya crashing. What are some good tips for hi def renders? I've heard of some people turning their textures into data files that are referenced by maya rather than being stored in a cache so that it does not slow down. I do not know how to do this, or if it's even possible. Any help would be great.
p.s. The render also involves hair from shave&haircut and slows things more.
