Videoplayer in maya ui?

Hi there,

is it possible to integrate a videoplayer into a maya ui? It would be great if I could dynamically mark the framerange from a videoclip and assign the values to maya attributes.

Imagine you load a video into the viewer, then manually select a fremerange (e.g. 120 - 250), then press a button and an object in maya gets created that has two custom attributes min and max with the values 120 and 250 and a string attribute with the path to the video...

Well its possible allright but if its feasible is another question entirely. I mean its even possible to embed nuke in maya if you wish another thing enetirely how usefull it is for you to crash 2 separate programs in one go.

But yes maya allready knows how to play videos, and it marks times ad file loacation in nodes if you do that. But realli t all depends n what the desired purpose is. Do teh simplest thing that can possibly work well, and dont try to out cool your neigbour. At the end of the day its about getting things done. Ideas are cheap, implementations of said ideas is where the cost is.

I totally agree. The goal is to create experimental video edits out of 3d scenes and the workflow should be as smooth as possible. I would also be happy with a solution where external videoplayer/editor values are queried (e.g. virtual dub), so it doesn't ->have<- to be embedded (Maya sciprting is just the thing i'm most familiar with). But unfortunately my programming skills outside maya are very limited . I'm looking into the qt editor also right now and perhaps it should be possible if you open a port to maya, but like I said, no experience at all with that...

Anyway if your papy to use pyqt then you could look into using the phonon player. But yes doing thsi with a extenrally launceh virtual dub is not a big deal.

If you could give me a small hint on how to do this with virtual dub would be phenomenal ! When I think about it i'd even prefer the vdub method over the embedded one. Can I do this without the vdub sourcecode?

i used this instruction to install pyQt on Maya 2011 64 bit:

Seems to work fine, except for phonon! Am I missing something here? do i have to install the phonon lib separately? It was part of the "patch" zip file provided there (at least the dll)
