What Is The Furure Of Shake?

I am interested in learning a compositing application. A lot of people swear by Shake. However I also hear that Apple is going to discontinue developing it. Can some one point me to the facts about the software as I do not want to invest time into learning something that will not longer be viable. Thanks.

learning the foundation of compositing is far more important then a specific interface, and shake is still one of the best and most affordable packages for that. there are also still plenty of jobs done in shake.

but no, it wont be developed anymore.

like zem says...shake is a great place to pick up the fundamentals of compositing within a node based environment. as for it being discontinued, that is only a silly rumor. there has been no official word on what is to become of it. i actually got this information personally when i was at this past NAB show, from one of the apple spokes persons. all he said that would happen is probably a simple name change and quite possibly just being incorporated within the next couple versions of motion.

but yeah i would still take shake on if you are interested in learning the fundamentals of node based compositing. and like i said, as for the the future of shake...only silly rumors as of right now from people who are too impatient to wait for official news.

Apple is not going to because they already did discontinue developing Shake about 2 years ago. That is why a $5000 compositor costs $500.

well mathematics dont change from any compositing app. i was just mainly refering to the ease of use compared to most node based apps. not my first node based app, but definitely the most affordable and easiest to get a grasp of haha

There are a few freeware nodebased comp apps, so its denitely not the most affordable in pure money. But perhaps in performance. Anyway i dont think shake is the easiest one out there either, tough the manual is very good reading on how comp works for techs.

well when it comes down to a resume...i think people would much rather see shake than some of the freeware xD lol

Blender and Jahshaka are the two I can think of. Tme would be better spent on Shake or any other pro compositing applications. The two above leave a lot to be desired.

Hi,

I was on Combustion during 2001-02, when my friends were learning shake V1, i used to take alternate path to avoid them calling me to join shake learning, then the fate put me on a New Job, where only Shake Exists. There i fell in love with Shake, and the love is till date, im next planning to move on to NUKE, but will not discontinue shake. Its a wonderful node based software and its very very very useful for fast production with high quality output.

The shake user mannual and shake turorials are very cleverly made and you will love it & enjoy learning thro it, I Suggest you to learn Compositing thro' shake, then dont forget to go thro the following softwares too, After Effects, Combustion, Digital Fushion, & Nuke. Generally TV ADs and TV Seriels After Effects is most used, for FILM Compositing shake is widly used.
