well a blind is connected by 2 spots. When the other spot hots the floor (the lowest blind is straight) it is forced to come up. You can use the same mechanism in maya. By point constraining by one point (move blind ivot here too) and then by orient constraining the individual blind to a second point. then the rotation offsets the second point and pulling up moves it if its lower then ground (+ offset of blinds stack) .
Now pulling the point constraint up adjusts the rotation, now make a expression/utility node that says position is either the value set by the rota tor or the puller whichever is higher likewise the lower part is at height of floor or its natural height. Done it also now moves like the real deal in terms of accelerations and so on.
If there is a way to do this with MEL script I am willing to learn new things.
If you dont know how to do this by hand then you dont know how to do it in mel, its as simple as that. Mel is the same thing as doing by hand but in automated fashion. MEL is the same thing as whet yoru doing now. Now that you know how to do this for one blind sure use mel to repeat the step.
