just don`t find if it was posted before...

I cannot find a way to get the count of all objects in a scene.

I also would like to be able to count the objects of a specific type, for example, all objects whose names begins with a "T" or whatever..

and also all objects whose group names begins again with a specific letter...

You would want to write a MEL script to do this. Narrow down the output of a list command, for example, objects begining with "T" like you said. You'd build an array of the objects in the scene using the ls command with a -typ flag or "T*" in your example. You may need to play around to find out which set of flags narrows things down the way you want.
Then use the size command to count the items in the array and print that result.
