xsi foundation

Hi Ppl,

the new version of xsi, foundation...
i know its a 'cut down' version of xsi4
but would it still be suitable for someone
wanting to do freelance etc,
can it still model, animate, render
and what are the rigging tools like in it..

XSI Foundation is not a demo or crippled version of XSI, it's a full application. The difference between the three is explained on the softimage web site.
Many companies will buy a combination of the three XSI versions and use them together.

There was already a demo or learning edition of XSI, it's called "XSI Experience".

In my opinion, XSI Foundation does generally more than the 'full' version of products like Lightwave. Foundation has the SubD modeling+animation mixing+particles+mental ray+scripting of the other two XSI versions.

I am using max from last 5 years or so the software is no doubt growing rapidly.

I planned to include maya complete to my tools.

But I have just been offered foundation xsi at $500. As any other user I as also facinated with xsi before. So I jumped seeing the cost offered. Coming back on earth I just stared to think.

Is it worth shifting from max to xsi foundation insted maya?
How can one compare foundation with Xsi & maya complete?

i bought maya and xsi and i would say that xsi is more artist oriented than maya. if you are not dealing with programming, complex setups and connecting everything together with expressions then xsi is the way to go.

if you want total control then i would say "hello houdini!"

in certain aspects maya is more powerful than xsi but it's a matter of getting used with the workflow.

the concepts are up to a point similar but the workflow is way different in xsi than maya
