I also own the Mac version of Zbrush too. I bought it first, but had to get a crossgrade too for the PC so I could start learning it ASAP. So I've worked with the Mac versions "perspective" as well.
I don't know if you've used the PC version or not, but I have had a lot of issues trying to do sculpting with the perspective view on the Mac. I had a thread with images talking about it, but no one seemed to understand what I was saying. Sadly the images aren't available anymore, since I've moved websites. But I did many tests back and forth between the PC version and Mac version, and I still don't like the perspective sculpting in the Mac version. I hope they update it and make it more accessable.

As far as posing Zspheres, I had some success with it, but ultimately I gave up on them because of having to do too many corrections after it's posed. Being able to seperate the zspheres from the mesh might help get rid of that problem, like Pixologic illustrated with the zsphere rig videos they posted awhile back. The shoulder region they made wouldn't generate a good model from the zsphere's, but as a rig it worked great. I've done a few tests with posing zpshere's, but I decided not to spend any more time with it until they update the way they work.
Here's a model that I did with zsphere's, testing their posing ability. I had to do a lot of cleanup on the back, chest and hips, and it's still very stretched.

Once the new zsphere's come out, I'd be more than happy to work with you on pushing them as much as possible. I'm really looking forward to it actually!

The sculpt in perspective was a really nice fix for the Mac users. I use it all the time. It is supposed to be fixed for Windows with the release of 2.5.
As for the modeling rig, do you mean a base zsphere structure to work from to create many characters? Follow the link I've posted above (page 1 I believe). It may be of help to you as well, or perhaps you have input that I can address in the thread for everyone's benefit.
