When rendering fluids with mental ray in Maya 2009, I'm unable to get a fluid to output anything to the depth buffer. I see from the following thread on CGTalk that this was considered a bug 2 years ago:

...so I was wondering if there's now a way to get a fluid depth buffer in 2009?
I can get a depth channel for the fluid if I use the Maya software renderer, so we could run separate renders just for depth. But mental ray renders our scenes a lot faster.
