You are absolutely right. Knowing the environment for my character is very important. Sadly this is one thing that I am really poor at. I cannot imagine what should be the background for a particular character. Making a background which will easily blend with the character is a very tough job. I would say this is the toughest. Making a character is easy foe me comparing with making the environment for it.
