3 button mouse 4 maya without those stupid wheels?

I had the perfect mouse.....belkin classic with 3 buttons only 9.99. Well after a year of Maya action it broke so I bought 2 more thinking they would be out of production. Now the new ones just plain suck! I searched here and found some mouse somebody mentioned that was $80...No thanks. Anybody know of a 3 button optical PS2 mouse without a wheel for Maya. I am desperate...I even tried Unix/Linux mice and have had no luck Thanks in advance for any help.

S..t out of luck, I guess. I believe there's no such thing on the market, at least not the US market. Try ebay and, considering you're in Cali, local computer stores that sell used stuff.

Seriously, try a 5 button intellimouse for 30 or 40 bucks. The thumb button is better than a middle button once you get used to it, which takes a couple days tops.

That's what i use. You can also customise the buttons for each application. Even assign keyboard keys to them. The other side button can be Alt for instance. Still, there's a real shortage of good 3D mice on the market.

And intellimouse is not officially certified for maya, whatever that means.

I'm stillusing a my SGI mouse form 5 years ago. I also have several belkin 3 button mic that are OK and also a logitech three button mouse that is pretty good.

I had to search to find those alternatives.. I don't get the scroll wheel and I have never been able to deal with more than three buttons but to each his own. I have sen some ergonimic keyboards/mice that look insane to use and then if you every have to work at somebodies else ciomputers you are all thumbs after getting use dto something else. I allready have to bring my own keyboard and mouse with me because I can't stand using other peoples input devices.

I got my aopen mouse for $8 with 4 buttons 1 scrolly wheel/button and a second scrolly wheel thing... all fully configurable.

That's the belkin I have the other mouse is a dell mouse and I've never seen an SGI mouse that looked like that.

That was a logitech mouseman, rebranded by Dell. What did your SGI mouse look like?

The sgi mouse I have looks kindof like the belkin but a little smaller and gray.

If that aopen mouse you are talking about is the gray and blue one i saw on access micro, it looks identical to a kensington i tried before i got the intellimouse. I didnt like that mouse because the sides slope inward so it was awkward to pick it up without accidentaly hitting one of the side buttons. Also, i could never get the software to work right for button configs.

I researched exhaustively, although for a USB version, and found that my best bet was a (discontinued)Logitech Wingman from ebay.com

Oh, man... I wish the original designers of the Alpha Mysh worked on a larger version, optical USB cordless etc... This mouse seems to be originally designed by Allspirit as a "Kiddy Mouse" and they are not aware of it's potential (I've even emailed them). It was also marketed by Guillemot in Europe. I have one of those and it's a very good design, only too small since it was designed for kids. Thumb button is a middle button. It's almost not sold in the US (I've just ordered a flashing lights version cause everything else is sold out).

By the way, considering the stuff BossWave writes about joystick control (vector +) - has anyone tried using joystick as a mouse? I've tried half a dozen programs for this and it sems like it's not very functional. Actually that BossWave page was pretty interesting. I guess a joystick with improved aiming (switch from vector to coordinate on the fly) would be a very ergonomic pointing device. I've seen joystick to mouse apps that have an absolute coordinates option. You just need to add an interactive switch from one to another. Sorry I'm rambling.

Just had an idea. Take the spring out of the joystick so you don't put any effort into movement and let it use absolute coordinates and that's it. Gonna try it next week. And you get tons of buttons. Hmm... It would be nice if joysticks kept their position instead of being self-centering. I'm sure it's possible to manufacture.

Still, a combination of vector and coordinate control styles in a joystick would be just great. Good navigation plus good precision...

Looks like it's PS/2 with serial adapter. Their shipping charges are expensive. I'll buy printer cartridges as well or something. I have an old mouseman, it's great.
