Just restarting the old topic cause the old one was locked.
Well I've been using the Belkin 3 button optical mouse that krasnel suggested for about 3 years now, and it has been great. Unfortunately due to constant abuse gaming and 3D work, it's on it's last leg. The pointer from time to time jumps around the screen.
So I went back to Dell to find the Belkin, but it is no longer being sold. Fortunately I found a possible replacement HP USB Optical 3 button Mouse. Does anyone have any experience with this mouse, and if so, do you know what the dpi is? Also, if anyone knows of an alternative 3 button mouse, please post the link(s).
Any optical mouse wheel mouse should work fine, been using them for i dunno 8 or so years and never had a problem with using the scroll wheel as a third mouse button not to mention the benefit of the scroll feature as well.
I just get the cheap OEM logitech mice from computer markets or microsoft if i can't find any though the only MS mouse i've gotten still just sits there not having been used lol.
Not sure about that mouse but any recently made optical mouse would likely be 800dpi atleast even a cheap generic one which should be fine on upto a 28" screen as on my 22" I had to turn the mouse speed down just so it felt normal and didn't move to faster when I went up from a 400dpi mouse to this 1000dpi one.
Alot of scroll mice you can also move the scrool wheel to the left and right as 2 additional buttons or additional scrollers but I find it such a pain in the ass trying to do that i dont bother lol.
I'm an old sgi user, and I kind of fell in love with the simple 3 button mouse that came with the old systems. As far as I know Alias doesn't have a function to take advantage of the scroll wheel, so unfortunately it just gets in the way. It does help to have the scroll wheel when gaming though, so I just went out and bought the $70 G9, friggin awesome mouse. Still need a good 3 button mouse though, I guess I'll give the $15 HP a try, and post my reviews for the old farts. Cheers
What program do you use? Even if it doesn't support the scroll wheel the function of it working as a 3rd mouse button should work so it's odd if it does not.
Alias StudioTools, and yes the scroll wheel does function as a third button, it's just an odd shaped button. A smooth three button mouse just helps in being comfortable for long periods, and the last versions I had could still 2D scroll by holding down the middle button and dragging.
Ah crap, I know your right beaker, but I'm a stubborn viking, and I want my three button mouse. I also realize that in the near future, I will probably be forced to use an alternative to Alias, and that alternative will most likely have scroll support. But until then, I'll keep looking for three button mice.
To get back on topic, if anyone has experience with the HP mouse or knows of any three button mice, please post them.
