32 Bit Application On 64

Would a 32 bit application like 3dsMAX work on a 64 bit system?

Maybe... theoretically they should. But even if the name would iply somehow the operating system is same it isnt they are coded separately. And thus a nuber of things may work differently or not at all. Theres quite many problems still with the 64 bit windows systems.

So if you go 64 bit you should choose your applications with great care.

Can you describe some of the issues related to running Vista 64 (not necessarily with Max) that people are running into that cause concern

64bit OS will run your 32 bit application fine, with the added benefit you can run 64 bit versions as well.
With XP-Pro x64 it will use more than 3gb ram which is the limit of a 32 bit OS, I know you mentioned using Vista (personally I wouldnt, unless it was on a home PC). So go for 64 bit OS & dont look back!

Well mostly today the prblem is that all codecs dont work all that well in a 64 bit machine.
