3d Into Ae

Hey guys, this may sound like a stupid question but here it goes..

I am making a Sci-Fi mini film and am looking for the proper software to use. I understand basicly that you can create say a spaceship in Lightwave and do the animation there and then send it to After Effects to composite it into the video. My question is how? If someone can explain the proccess of putting a 3D model and animation into a movie scene in AE, could you please here or atleast give me a link to a good tutorial. Much Appreciated, Thanks

well.. actually one should render out of 3D application a sequence of images with alpha/chroma, then drag into AFX. visit www.creativecow.com for tutorials.

I think you're gonna have to narrow your question down a little bit to get any helpful responses.... At the moment you're basically asking "How do I do computer graphics?"... ;O) It's too broad for anyone to answer.

steve is right ,first of all pls read the AE manual.And read the manual of Lightwave first ,if this is not fit buy a trainign DVD .But to say the truth ,first ,you have to know about something about RICH PICTURE FORMAT :extantion *.rpf,AE can realize the dept of Z from any 3D software you can support that format.

I think AE7 and Photoshop CS2 both support OpenEXR, which can contain z depth info and hdr color info. I'm an AE newbie myself and can recomend Creative Cow and Creative Calf as excellent learning resources.
