3d paint programs are there any decent ones?

Are there any decent 3d paint programs. All seem to have various problems both major and minor. The majority seem to be based aroudn 3d max and the like too which is not too useful for us soft addicts. Have looked at deep paint which seems good but still has various problems associated with it. We work in nurbs exclusively too...

well with deep paint it really isnt that hard to take your nurbs character and say project a grid on him now convert that projected grid into file textures (this can be done in maya im sure soft or xsi has to have a feature for this) now convert your nurbs to a rough low res poly representation of it with those maps on it save that poly version with those maps out as an obj i believe load that and those maps into deep paint and your set to go when you paint on those maps with the grid they are the same maps that are applied to the nurbs model so you can paint in Deep Paint on a polygon model and get your textures for your nurbs model
or if you have access to maya maya 3.0 has the feature to paint directly on your model in it
its not fully realised yet it doesnt have the full features of say deep paint with all the kinds of brushes and stuff but its not that bad
