hello all,
i'm wondering how (if anyone knows) you extrude whole poly and surface primitives (not just faces) to create thickness? for example, the way they do it in this 3DSM tutorial using something called "shell":

Is there an equally simple tool in maya I've missed that achieves this?
thanks,Junior3D
hey, yeah, Maya can do something pretty similar.first goto Polygon > tool options > keep faces together (should be checked on)then select your object goto Edit Polygons > Extrude Face. and then pull out the extrude using the manipulator tool that pops up. doing the bevel is a little more tricky, one way is to just do another extude and then move it out slightly and then either scale it or change the offset in the extrude options.hope that helps!
Thank you for the info. This is exactly it!
And for anyone else who might have the same question--you can control the amount of 'Segments' under the INPUTS > polyExtrudeFace2 > Divisions ....
Thanks again, JP! Very nice.
