Softbodies will never do cloth convincingly - it has to do with the spring tensions not being rigid enough, and you cannot crank them down without the clothing system becoming unstable.
If you do get something it will look like rubber.
You have to use the right tool for the job, or else you will suffer - more than if you used cloth.
Otherwise, you should look at rigging your clothing like a skin and maybe putting deformers on and animating them like you would secondary animation (get your basic motion on your skin/clothes as blocking, then bake it out, add deformers where needed and animate that based on timing and camera angles.)
