I haven't done it for a while, but I think you can just adjust the color gain in the color correction part of the image load node. theres also a way to control the photon energy when using global illumination, but I can't remember that one off hand. Oh by the way, you might have better luck creating a "surface shader" instead of a "lambert" that way the HDR image won't be affected by any lighting or shading in the shader in any way.
